Sacred ceremony of asking for fire to cast the golden statue of Saint Giong

On the morning of June 22, at Soc Temple (in Phu Ninh commune - Soc Son - Hanoi), a ceremony was held to ask for fire to cast the golden statue of Saint Giong. This is an activity within the project "Heroic spirit of Thang Long - For peace and prosperity" towards the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.

Despite the rain, the ceremony to ask for sacred fire to cast statues at Soc Temple took place in a solemn and respectful atmosphere.

Speaking at the ceremony to ask for the sacred fire, Mr. Duong Trung Quoc - National Assembly Delegate, Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association said that the statue of Saint Giong is the only beautiful statue that only exists in Vietnam. This is not only a great work of art in 21st century sculpture highly appreciated by the art world but also a Saint of the nation, a symbol of national strength, cultural values, spiritual history. Especially at this time, Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands is being violated and threatened, the spirit and symbol of Saint Giong become more meaningful, as a call to unite national strength for the sacred Fatherland.

The golden statue of Saint Giong cast in pure gold-plated copper, 80cm high, 60kg in weight, total height including base 1.66m and numbered with a separate serial number from 1-60 will be cast. When the statue is cast, the Organizing Committee will continue to organize the ceremony of praying for peace, blessings, and spirit possession at Soc Temple. Next, the procession of 60 golden statues from Giong Temple around Hoan Kiem Lake to the Temple of Literature will take place from October 1-5, 2014 and will be displayed and introduced here.

The project concluded with a ceremony to award 60 golden statues of Saint Giong to organizations and individuals who registered as owners of the golden statues.

Also according to the Organizing Committee, a golden statue of Saint Giong will be donated to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for auction, all proceeds will be used to support and help fishermen on the islands.

This event is organized by the Vietnam Historical Science Association, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Asia Friendship Company.
