Lionel Messi and his father appear in court for tax evasion charges

According to Reuters news agency, Lionel Messi and his father Jorge Messi will have to appear in Barcelona city court next September to explain the tax evasion allegations.

"The judges have accepted the tax evasion complaint against Lionel Messi and Jorge Horacio. We will investigate and make a final decision. We will ask the accusers to present evidence on September 17," said a representative of the Barcelona city court.

Messi and his father Horacio were accused by prosecutor Raquel Amado of tax evasion between 2006 and 2009 totaling more than 4 million euros in the Gava district court (Barcelona). Most of this income came from commercial royalties that Messi received.
