Mudslides from the hills late yesterday swept away about 105 houses in Jemblung village, Banjarnegara district, Central Java province, AP reported, citing Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (NDMA).

According to Nugroho, rescue workers have found at least three bodies in the mud and taken 38 injured people to hospital, including four seriously injured. 370 residents have been evacuated to temporary shelters.

Hundreds of rescuers, including police, soldiers, and residents, are digging through the rubble with their bare hands, picks, and shovels in search of the 107 people still missing. Local authorities later deployed additional tractors and bulldozers to assist.

Landslides and flash floods are frequent occurrences during the rainy season in Indonesia. Indonesia comprises more than 17,000 islands with millions of people living in mountainous areas or near fertile plains.
