Revealing attractive tourist destination of Hoi An ancient town after 2 years of closure

After 2 years of restoration, the Japanese Covered Bridge relic - a famous symbol of Hoi An ancient town (Quang Nam) has completed most of the items and will reopen to welcome visitors in early August.

The Japanese Covered Bridge spans a small creek in Hoi An's old town and was built by Japanese merchants 400 years ago. This national historical and cultural relic has become the most famous symbol and destination in the old town. The photo shows the current state of the Japanese Covered Bridge before restoration.

Due to the serious deterioration of the Japanese Covered Bridge, in December 2022, Hoi An closed this relic for "major restoration", with a total cost of more than 20 billion VND. After 2 years of restoration, the main items of the Japanese Covered Bridge have been completed.

Because it has not been officially inaugurated, visitors cannot visit the inside of the Japanese Covered Bridge.

The interior of the Japanese Covered Bridge has basically been renovated. Items such as the foundation, pillars, piers, etc. have all been reinforced.

The appearance of the Japanese Covered Bridge has been revealed after nearly 2 years of being covered up for a major surgery. According to the People's Committee of Hoi An City, the project will be inaugurated on August 2, on the occasion of the 20th Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange.

The roof is covered with yin-yang tiles, with elaborate decorative details on the ridge and eaves. In particular, there are blue-glazed ceramics inlaid on the roof.

In the middle of the bridge is the entrance to the Pagoda, above the entrance to the worshiping room is a sign with the three words "Lai Vien Kieu". Below the sign are two door eyes, a distinct architectural detail of Hoi An.

It is called a pagoda but here they do not worship Buddha, but worship the god Bac De Tran Vu - the god who controls storms and floods, protects the land, and brings joy and happiness.
The patterns and motifs on the rafters and roof panels of the Japanese Covered Bridge are still intact.

When the Japanese Covered Bridge is completed and welcomes visitors again, visitors to Hoi An will have more convenient sightseeing, more experiences and contribute to the development of local tourism.
