Worried about difficulties exporting agricultural products to China due to corona virus
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) warned that businesses exporting agricultural products to China need to soon change their delivery methods.
On January 29, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that at present, it is not yet possible that the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic will have a major impact on the import and export of goods between Vietnam and China.
However, if the epidemic lasts, trade and travel at border gates between Vietnam and China will be restricted. Therefore, according to this agency, "the flow of goods through the border gates will certainly be affected".
As of January 29, 132 people had died and nearly 6,000 people were infected with the coronavirus. In addition, there were about 9,000 suspected cases, an increase of 1,500 cases compared to the previous day. In addition to China, the coronavirus has spread to many countries and territories such as South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, the US, France, Australia...
According to the Import-Export Department, there is information from China showing that the demand for some agricultural products has slowed down due to the complicated developments of the epidemic in this country. On the other hand, due to the strict implementation of epidemic prevention work, the transportation and delivery of goods between provinces and cities in China is extremely difficult.
In addition, to prevent the spread of the disease, some border gates bordering Lao Cai and Lang Son provinces will extend their closure until February 8, such as Bang Tuong border gate. Only Huu Nghi Quan border gate (Lang Son) will reopen from February 3.
Therefore, the Import-Export Department recommends that Vietnamese enterprises, especially agricultural enterprises with Chinese partners, have immediate solutions to change the delivery method if the other side cannot receive the goods. At the same time, enterprises need to shift exports to other markets or increase domestic consumption.
Localities bordering China also need to closely monitor the trading activities of border residents to ensure synchronous management measures for trading activities through international and national border gates.
Agricultural and aquatic products are traditional export products of Vietnam to China, always accounting for a large proportion (about 20%) of total export turnover to this market.
China is also the largest consumer market for Vietnam's agricultural and aquatic products, accounting for an average of 27% of total agricultural and aquatic product exports. The main agricultural products exported to China include vegetables, cashew nuts, coffee, rice, cassava and cassava products, rubber, aquatic products, etc.
According to the General Department of Customs, in 2019, Vietnam exported more than 1.23 billion USD worth of seafood and over 2.4 billion USD worth of fruits and vegetables to China. The export value of cashew nuts was more than 590.4 million USD, coffee was over 101 million USD...
