Plums are known as affordable fruits, only 15,000 - 20,000 VND will give you a full bag of plums to enjoy while you sit and chat. However, the price of Tam Hoa plums is different, the current market price ranges from 50,000 - 100,000 VND/kg, an average of 20 fruits/kg, each plum costs up to 5,000 VND.
In the Hanoi fruit market, this type of fruit is especially popular and quite scarce. Ms. Ngoc - a fruit vendor at Quang market shared: "At the beginning of the season, the price of Tam Hoa plum was sky-high at 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg, and many times when customers asked, there was no product to sell. Now in season, the price has decreased, Tam Hoa plum grade 1 is 90,000 VND/kg, Tam Hoa plum grade 2 is 50,000 VND/kg, if you don't choose the fruit, it is 10,000 VND cheaper."
The price of this plum is not only high this year, but last year, Tam Hoa plum also cost nearly a hundred thousand when it was in season, and by the end of the season, the price was inflated to 120,000 - 150,000 VND/khoa.
The retail price of Tam Hoa plums in Hanoi is twice as high as the retail price in Bac Ha town. Traders explain that this price increase is to compensate for the cost of transportation, preservation and loss of rotten and damaged fruits. If for those reasons, it is impossible to impose a cost of 40,000 VND on 1kg of plums.
With a fairly high price, Tam Hoa plum is still more popular with buyers than other plums on the market such as Hau plum, Com plum, etc. According to a survey, the price of Hau plum is only about 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, the price of Com plum is about 20,000 VND/kg, so the price of Tam Hoa plum is 3 to 4 times higher than other plums.
Ms. Quan - a customer also said: "The plums are big, delicious, ripe, sweet and sour when eaten. Although the price of this plum is a few tens of thousands of dong higher than other plums..."
The price of Tam Hoa plums has increased so much because of the demand of Hanoi consumers to enjoy delicious, clean fruits with clear origin and no preservatives. This specialty fruit only grows and develops at an altitude of 800 - 1,000 meters (compared to sea level) and a temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius. The provinces that can grow this fruit are: Lai Chau, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Nghe An... Harvest time falls around the end of May for places with high temperatures and low altitudes, June to mid-July is the peak ripening time. The characteristic and difference between Tam Hoa plum and other plums on the market is that Tam Hoa plum is covered with a layer of white powder, the plum skin when ripe is dark purple, the core is red, the plum is large and weighs a lot (average 20 fruits/kg). |
