CHAOS in Barcelona: One year, 2 lawsuits, coach's departure, change of President,...

Saying goodbye to sporting director Zubizarretta is just one of many problems that Barcelona has encountered since the beginning of 2014. Is this team in "chaos"?

Neymar trouble, President Rosell resigns

An office in Madrid investigated Neymar's transfer fee and discovered that Barcelona had overstated the Brazilian's value. Barca announced Neymar's transfer fee at 57 million euros, but hid 40 million euros paid to a company with business ties to Neymar's family, specifically Neymar's father, who is also the player's agent.

The Neymar deal has led to many consequences for Barca.

Barcelona's president at the time, Sandro Rosell, was accused of "embezzlement" through the transfer. Rosell was later fired, forcing Barca to elect a new Board of Directors. As a result, Josep Bartomeu was elected president.

Appoint Luis Enrique

The decision to appoint new coach Luis Enrique was made quickly by Barcelona at the beginning of this season. The decision proves the instability of Barca from the head coach position.

Luis Enrique has not shown his talent.

Since Pep Guardiola left Barca in 2012, the team has had three head coaches in two years. Tito Vilanova was unable to secure a job due to illness. Tata Martino led the team for a whole season and only won the Spanish Super Cup. Luis Enrique is also struggling with internal problems within the team, and is not highly regarded for his tactical improvements.

Transfer prohibited

Barcelona were banned from signing players by FIFA in August 2014, and their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was unsuccessful. They were banned for two transfer windows, starting in January 2015, and fined 450,000 Swiss Francs. The Spanish Football Federation was also implicated, and fined 500,000 Swiss Francs.

Barca were banned from signing players under the age of 18 for breaching rules on signing players under the age of 18. Under the rules, players under the age of 18 can only move to another club if their parents move there for non-footballing reasons; if they are from a country in the EU or European Economic Area; or if they live within 100km of the club.

Termination of contract with Zubizarreta

The latest shock for Barca is the termination of Zubizarreta's contract. The decision was made shortly after Barca failed in their appeal to CAS to lift the transfer ban.

Zubizarreta has been terminated.

This is considered the last straw because of a series of mistakes that Mr. Zubizarreta made. Under Pep Guardiola, Zubizarreta made ineffective deals with Ibrahimovic, Martin Caceres, Hleb, Henry, Marquez and Yaya Toure. Selling Thiago, Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas were also considered mistakes. The transfer trouble with Neymar led to a chain reaction of collapse, which could not be helped by Zubizarreta. The deals with Jeremy Mathieu (too old) and Thomas Vermaelen (bought but seriously injured, not playing a single match since the beginning of the season) were also considered unwise.

The warriors laid down their arms.

They grew up in La Masia, rose to great heights under Pep Guardiola and were expected to stick around and contribute long-term to Barca, but in the end were the first to leave.

Victor Valdes is determined to leave. Carles Puyol has decided to retire, and most recently, he has followed Zubizarreta in leaving his position as Technical Director's advisor. He said he "learned a lot in a few months", but the reason for his decision remains a mystery, because a legend like Puyol would not leave Barca so easily.

Another veteran, Gerard Pique, has fallen off the radar since Puyol left. Xavi is in his final season at the club. Sergio Busquets is no longer at his best. Pedro is sitting on the bench so much that he is considering leaving, as is Martin Montoya. Daniel Alves has not had his contract renewed, despite Barca being under a transfer ban and lacking many alternatives.

Confused with Lionel Messi

Barca's defeat puts pressure on Lionel Messi.

In addition to the failure with the Barca team, Messi also failed in the individual race with Cristiano Ronaldo. Not only that, he is also suspected of having conflicts with coach Luis Enrique. Lionel Messi missed the training session after Christmas and in the most recent match against Real Sociedad, Messi was on the bench.
