Although the extent of the damage is yet to be determined, at least tens of hectares of greenhouses and vegetable and flower crops belonging to farmers in Da Lat have been damaged by tornadoes and hailstorms on the afternoon of May 7th.

This hailstorm, accompanied by a tornado, lasted for nearly an hour, sweeping through Ward 8 (Da Lat City). Although the hailstorm itself only lasted about 15 minutes, it caused extensive damage to greenhouses, destroying crops and flowers… with initial estimated losses reaching hundreds of millions of dong.

Hailstorms have damaged large areas of vegetable crops.

In the Tran Quang Khai street area, it rained heavily, like hailstones falling on the vegetable fields. After the rain, hailstones the size of fingers were washed away by the water and piled up in heaps, some of which could fill dozens of sacks.

Mr. Truong Tan Minh (55 years old, residing in Ward 8, Da Lat City) said that he had seen hailstorms many times before, but this was the first time in his life he had witnessed such a hailstorm.

In the Van Kiet Lake area, hailstorms also caused significant damage to greenhouses and vegetable crops.

Authorities in Da Lat City are currently inspecting and compiling a list of damages to determine how to provide assistance to the affected residents.
