New research shows that egg whites can lower blood pressure like medication.

Egg whites can lower blood pressure like medication, according to new research published by Chinese scientists.

An important component found in egg whites is a peptide, one of the building blocks of protein, that has been shown to lower blood pressure, much like Captopril, a drug used to treat high blood pressure. The peptide found in egg whites is called RVPSL. This substance strongly inhibits or blocks the effects of Ace, a substance produced in the body that increases blood pressure.

Previously, in 2009, scientists at the University of Alberta, Canada discovered that eggs produce proteins similar to the effects of blood pressure lowering drugs. They also found that eggs can lower blood pressure because the substances in eggs have the ability to inhibit Ace. A recent announcement by researchers at the University of Missouri shows that a protein-rich breakfast like eggs is the best way to control appetite and limit snacking at night.
