The Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said widespread flooding has affected more than 37 villages in six provinces in Mindanao. Meanwhile, the country’s meteorological agency on the same day forecast that a low pressure area forming in some southern areas will bring heavy rains that will cause floods and landslides.
Last month, the Philippines suffered from super typhoon Bopha, which left more than 1,000 people dead or missing. On average, the country experiences about 20 typhoons each year. In December 2011, typhoon Washi hit Mindanao, killing more than 1,200 people and leaving thousands homeless./.
