Child abduction, sentenced to 10 years in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - The provincial People's Court has just opened a mobile criminal trial for the child abduction case against Hoang Thi Canh (born in 1950, residing in Cam Due commune, Cam Xuyen, Ha Tinh).

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy, Hoang Thi Canh has 5 previous convictions for fraud, child abduction (2 previous convictions), escape from prison and robbery. Canh completed her prison term in 2014. During her time in prison, Canh and Luong Thi Lien (living in Tuong Duong, serving a sentence for drug crimes) shared a cell. Canh often helped Lien take care of her daughter Kha Thi K. After serving their sentences, the two were released from prison but still kept in regular contact with each other.
On the afternoon of July 30, 2014, Canh went to Tuong Duong District General Hospital to visit Lien, who was being treated there. Because she had no children and was lonely, Hoang Thi Canh had the idea of taking possession of her grandchild to have fun with her. Canh lied to Luong Thi Lien that she would take K to Vinh city for three days to buy books and clothes and then take her back to school. However, Hoang Thi Canh took K to several places in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and then to Hue.
Because she could not see her son return and could not contact Canh by phone, Ms. Lien reported to the police. On the afternoon of August 10, 2014, when Canh and K were in Hue city, they were discovered by the Investigation Police Department of Tuong Duong District Police and the Investigation Police Department of Nghe An Province.
The above-mentioned behavior of the defendant Hoang Thi Canh directly violated the right to manage, care for, and educate children, negatively affecting public order and security in the area. That behavior is dangerous to society and must be strictly handled before the law. However, considering that the defendant confessed honestly, showed remorse, and the victim asked for a lighter sentence, the People's Court sentenced Hoang Thi Canh to 10 years in prison.
