On the afternoon of July 25, the Investigation Police Agency of Bien Hoa City Police (Dong Nai) temporarily detained Pham Sy Khanh (48 years old, hometown Nghe An; temporarily residing in Bien Hoa City) for the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to the police: On July 12, through the social network Zalo, Ms. Le Thi V. (33 years old, living in Bien Hoa City) met Pham Sy Khanh. After a while of talking, both felt "like-minded". On July 17, Khanh called V. to arrange to take her to his house in Long Thanh district to meet his parents and the girl agreed.
Khanh took his girlfriend to the ATM next to the Co-op Mart supermarket (Tan Tien ward) so that Ms. V. could withdraw money. When Ms. V. finished withdrawing money, Khanh told his lover to give him the money, necklace, and gold ring to keep for her in case she was robbed on the road.
Trusting her, Ms. V. gave Khanh 19.5 million VND and a gold necklace and gold ring to keep. At this time, Khanh advised his girlfriend to find a hair salon to get her hair done. Ms. V. agreed, so Khanh took her to a hair salon on Nguyen Ai Quoc Street (Tan Phong Ward, Bien Hoa City) to get her hair done. With the excuse of going to another salon to shave her hairline, Khanh took all of Ms. V.'s belongings and fled. Waiting for a long time without seeing her boyfriend come back to pick her up, Ms. V. knew she had been scammed but did not report it to the police.
On July 23, Ms. V. accidentally discovered Khanh at a coffee shop in Tam Hoa Ward (Bien Hoa City). Seeing his girlfriend, Khanh ran away, leaving his motorbike in the parking lot. At this time, Ms. V. reported to the Tam Hoa Ward Police that he had kept the motorbike. Knowing that Ms. V. had reported it to the police, Khanh borrowed money from a friend to bring it to the Tam Hoa Ward Police to return it to Ms. V. to get the motorbike back.
On July 24, Khanh turned himself in to the Tan Tien Ward Police Station. Khanh confessed that after getting the money, he lost it all in gambling. As for the necklace and gold ring, Khanh put them in his pocket and lost them./.
