Israeli security forces shoot dead a Palestinian near Bethlehem
A Palestinian who tried to attack Israeli soldiers with a knife at a crossing near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank was shot dead by Israeli security forces, the Israeli military said.

The incident occurred at the Gush Etzion crossing near an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident.
Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians have been rising over the past two weeks over the Haram al-Sharif compound, which Israel calls the Temple Mount, a site holy to both Muslims and Jews. However, it is unclear whether the latest incident is related to the two-week-long tensions.
Meanwhile, prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque on July 28 ended peacefully. A mosque official said that tens of thousands of worshippers attended the prayers and there were no incidents.
Over the past two weeks, worshippers have been performing rituals in nearby streets to protest Israel's imposition of security controls, such as installing metal detectors and surveillance cameras at the shrine's entrance, after Arab gunmen shot dead two Israeli police officers outside the shrine area./.
