Syrian opposition forces meet in Saudi Arabia

On November 22, in the capital Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, representatives of Syrian opposition forces met to form a negotiating delegation before going to Geneva, Switzerland.

About 140 representatives of opposition groups attended the meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister.

The opposition representative said efforts are underway to reach a consensus among all forces of the revolution, the opposition, civil forces and other independent political organizations to form a unified delegation a week before the eighth round of UN-sponsored talks. The meeting is expected to last for three days.

Meanwhile, in Sochi, Russia also held a Russia-Türkiye-Iran summit to seek a political solution for Syria as the war on terrorism nears its end.

Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that Syria's future will not be decided by foreign powers, stressing that interference by the US and its allies in regional affairs will not succeed.

Mr. Hassan Rouhani said that Iran hopes to create a foundation for Syria to have a better future. He affirmed that Iran always feels responsible for the situation in the region, noting that the plans of Western powers are within the framework of the Middle East project that the US has been implementing for many years./.
