(Baonghean.vn) -Not only is she an excellent student in all subjects, an exemplary class vice-president, and enthusiastic in youth union activities, but Luong Thi Mai Huong is also a responsible older sister, taking care of household chores and guiding her younger brother. With 28.5 points in the A-block entrance exam for Hanoi University of Pharmacy and 29.5 points in the B-block entrance exam for Hanoi University of Medicine, Mai Huong had an even greater joy: being admitted to the Party. This is a well-deserved reward for this top-scoring female student who is "three-in-one" (referring to her three responsibilities).
Originally from Vinh Son, Anh Son, Luong Van Giang (Luong Mai Huong's father) moved to Dak Lak to make a living. At the age of 5, due to family circumstances, Luong Thi Mai Huong was sent back to her hometown to live with her maternal aunt in Ben Thuy ward. Living away from her parents from a young age, Mai Huong quickly became independent and self-disciplined in her studies. Throughout her years at Trung Do Primary School, Mai Huong consistently excelled academically, and in the 5th grade, she won a Silver medal at the National Children's Mathematics Olympiad.
In middle school, Mai Huong was admitted to Dang Thai Mai Secondary School, located several kilometers from her home. However, with the dedicated support of her aunt, Mai Huong attended school regularly, excelling for four consecutive years and achieving the provincial award for excellence in Chemistry in 9th grade. In the 2010-2011 school year, Mai Huong was admitted to the 10th grade specialized Chemistry program at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and the specialized Mathematics program at Vinh University High School for the Gifted. She later chose Vinh University High School for the Gifted because it was closer to home. For 12 years, she was an all-around excellent student and an exemplary class deputy, earning the love and respect of her teachers and classmates.
“I’ve lived away from my parents since I was little. For eight years straight, due to difficult economic circumstances, my parents couldn’t come to visit my sister and me. I miss them so much. Especially on the first day of school, when my classmates are taken shopping for books and supplies by their parents, driven to the opening ceremony, or when they win awards in school and are taken out to play by their parents… I feel a pang of sadness. I just wish my parents could attend my parent-teacher meeting just once,” Mai Huong shared thoughtfully.

However, because she lived away from her family from a young age, Mai Huong developed a strong sense of self-discipline in both her studies and her life. Outside of school, Mai Huong is very skilled at housework, cooking, and taking care of and managing her younger sibling. With their parents far away, the two sisters live with their aunt, so they always encourage each other to study hard and be well-behaved so as not to bother their aunt. Especially to give their parents peace of mind to focus on their work… Huong is always a role model in everything from her clothing and speech to her studies, so her younger brother can follow her example. Thanks to her guidance and teaching, her younger brother, Luong Van Tra, is also a good and diligent student; he is currently a 10th-grade student specializing in Computer Science at Vinh University High School for Gifted Students.
In this year's university entrance exam, Mai Huong applied to two prestigious universities: Hanoi Medical University and Hanoi Pharmaceutical University. She passed both with very high scores: 28.5 points in Block A and becoming the valedictorian of Hanoi Medical University with 29.5 points in Block B. "Since I was little, I've dreamed of becoming a doctor. And to fulfill that dream, I've always tried my best to study hard. My choice of these two universities with high entrance requirements was based on my own academic ability. Achieving the top score at my university makes me feel very happy and proud…," Mai Huong shared.
For Mai Huong, achieving high scores in both exam subjects required an effective study method. Each subject demands a specific approach: Chemistry demands meticulousness and precision, requiring thorough study and a firm grasp of fundamental concepts; Mathematics requires logical thinking, ensuring no gaps in textbook knowledge; Physics demands diligent practice, problem-solving, and extensive reading; and Biology requires developing a strong memory, as 50% of the exam questions are theoretical. Mai Huong's method involves never skipping any questions, especially the difficult ones. She meticulously notes down any parts she hasn't studied thoroughly or answered incorrectly, so she can address them immediately afterward.

The greatest joy Mai Huong received was her Party membership ceremony at Vinh University's Party Committee at the end of July. Her happiness was further amplified when she and her sister moved into their new home, and their parents decided to return to their hometown to care for them and reunite the family. "That's the biggest reward, the greatest happiness I've ever received…," Mai Huong confided.
