The "nemesis" of poisonous snakes

Turning the pages of the book, physician Bui Duc Luc counted 149 cases of venomous snake bites that he had cured. That was the number calculated from July 2004 to July 2012. Mr. Luc said: Born in 1961, at the age of 12 he helped his father pick medicinal leaves to treat snake bites. What he clearly remembers is that 100% of the snake bite cases that came to him were cured. There were cases that seemed hopeless, but they were still brought back to life.

Physician Bui Duc Luc

Seven years ago, Mr. Hung, a police officer at Prison No. 3, was bitten by a cobra and was taken to Tan Ky General Hospital by his family for emergency treatment. When the patient was speechless and the doctors were helpless, his family sought out Mr. Luc. "While there is life, there is hope." He persistently used massage medicine and mixed medicine for him to drink by the spoonful. After more than 10 hours of treatment, the patient was out of danger and life miraculously came to him.

In 2008, a 9-year-old girl named Tu in Hong Linh Town (Ha Tinh) was bitten by a venomous snake and was left immobile and had to breathe oxygen. Her family brought her to him for treatment. With the patient's life and death only a matter of minutes, Mr. Luc calmly treated her with traditional medicine based on many years of experience, and he saved the patient from critical condition.

Mr. Luc said that there are many venomous snakes living in every region, especially in rural and mountainous areas, where venomous snakes appear everywhere at all times. People who are not vigilant are very susceptible to snake bites. When bitten by a venomous snake, if you are subjective and let it go for too long, it can easily lead to death. The media has recently published many cases of death due to venomous snake bites. That means that people are still subjective about venomous snakes. Therefore, he really wants to introduce his herbal remedy for venomous snake bites so that everyone knows how to treat themselves when they are unfortunately bitten by a venomous snake.

Symptoms of snake bites

In early August, the Tan Ky District Science and Technology Association coordinated with the District Traditional Medicine Association to organize a scientific seminar on the topic “How to prevent and traditional medicine to treat venomous snake bites”. Many officials and people came to listen. Among them were many people from the Department of Health, Nghe An Traditional Medicine Association, Provincial Traditional Medicine Association, Nghe An Border Guard and Hanoi University of Pharmacy.

The scientific topic "How to prevent and traditional medicine to treat venomous snake bites" was drafted by Doctor Bui Duc Luc and a number of other doctors, introduced in a specific, detailed, easy-to-understand way, with many years of experience in the treatment of venomous snake bites. Common venomous snakes, identified by doctors, are: king cobra, red-tailed viper, cobra, rat snake, dry wood snake, stork snake, black snake (in the sea), and ground chun snake. These snakes all have 2 fangs, they often appear in the summer, rainy season, at night, on fields, rice fields... The common characteristic of venomous snake bites is 2 parallel straight marks, caused by 2 venomous fangs to lead the fluid into the body of the bitten person. If there are 3-4 marks, it shows that the venomous snake has bitten 2-3 times. Venomous snakes can bite 3-4 people in 1 hour, and the toxin and amount of venom are the same. There are two types of venomous snake bites: “wet bites” and “dry bites”, but the most dangerous is the wet bite, which can cause anaphylactic shock within 5 – 40 minutes. “Dry bites” will cause poisoning after 12 – 24 hours.

Based on the toxin groups to determine. If the toxin group is neurotoxic, its symptoms are a faint bite, sometimes mild pain, or no pain, little or no swelling. When first bitten, you may feel a little numb or normal. If you touch the bitten spot, you will feel cold, poor reflexes, drowsiness, drooping eyelids. The person feels restless, restless, less flexible, slow and unclear speech, and reduced memory. If there is abdominal pain, bladder pain, it means there is systemic poisoning. Low blood pressure, arrhythmia, respiratory failure...

In the group of edema and necrosis, the bite is clearly visible and has a red, purple, bruised, or blue color; the blisters are pale and cloudy, swelling quickly from the bite point and spreading. The patient has pain, severe pain, tingling pain on the skin. Anaphylactic shock, arrhythmia, low blood pressure, abdominal pain, vomiting, loose stools, bladder pain. Cell necrosis, high fever, infection. Internal bleeding, necrotic fluid flowing out causing a characteristic odor, dilated pupils, drooping eyelids, respiratory failure, paralysis of the limbs.

When a person is bitten by a venomous snake, first of all, first aid must be performed. The first first aid is to apply a tourniquet above the bite to limit the venom from flowing to the victim's heart and head. Do not apply a tourniquet for more than 15 minutes. After applying the tourniquet, use a needle, thorn or hard object to open the bite wound and prick around it (depth depends on the bite point) to release the infected blood. Use soap or antibacterial solution to wash the wound and disinfect the bite area. Do not squeeze the bite point, do not apply hot oils to the bite. Do not give the victim tobacco or toxic drugs. Use cloth or roodi rope to bandage the bite area, fix it with a splint to limit the movement of venom.

And the "3 easy" herbal medicine

With nearly 40 years of experience with his father, who specializes in saving people from venomous snake bites, Physician Bui Duc Luc has come up with a "3 easy" remedy. It is easy to find, easy to prepare, and easy to treat. 3 types of leaves are easy to find and combine together to provide emergency treatment when bitten by a venomous snake. They are: Grass leaves (usually grow in gardens or on the edge of fields); leaves of the Chinese clematis family (family of leaves that grow on the edge of bushes); leaves of the prickly clematis tree (the guava tree grows straight along fences and forest hills). Experience shows that picking these leaves in the summer is more effective and should be done in the sun, or in the afternoon. The way to prepare and process them while they are fresh is by cutting, slicing, and drying each type of leaf in the sun separately.

Calculate the amount of each type of leaf to mix the medicine: 2 pieces of grass (40%), 2 pieces of Sichuan pepper (40%), 1 piece of glove leaf (20%). Dry the medicine at a temperature not exceeding 500C to avoid reducing the properties of the medicine, stir well, dry and crispy, then grind into powder. Wrap tightly to prevent air from entering and store in a dry place. The medicine can be stored for 24 - 36 months. When a person is bitten by a venomous snake, the powder can be mixed with hot boiling water for the patient to drink. Or apply and soak, rub. Use hot boiling water mixed with medicine that is wet enough to have elasticity to apply to the snake bite and swollen areas, then use gauze to keep the moisture enough for the medicine to penetrate the body. But the most effective is to use the method of "internal moisture, external dressing", which means drinking internally and bandaging externally.

In emergency, it is necessary to determine the clinical symptoms for treatment. If the patient can take medicine by himself, give the patient the medicine according to the dosage, and remove the tourniquet. If the bite wound has black, blue, purple blood clots, blisters, then clear and release the wound, until the blood is normal red, then apply medicine and bandage it. When the patient is stable, change the medicine twice a day. Each time you change the medicine, use cooled boiled water to clean the wound. In case the patient is mute, has difficulty opening the mouth, has poor swallowing reflex, swollen neck lymph nodes, or nasopharyngeal effusion, use medicine mixed with hot boiled water, then add cold water for immediate use, apply the medicine directly to both sides of the jaw angle in the neck. Use topical medicine, massage the jaw muscles, temples, and acupressure. Use a syringe to suck out phlegm to help the patient breathe easier. It is also necessary to take the patient to a medical facility for respiratory support and intravenous fluids. In case the patient is in a coma, this is the stage with a high risk of death. The first thing to do is to take the patient to a medical facility for timely respiratory assistance, IV fluids, and oxygen. Use a syringe to inject medication into the stomach, because the patient has lost the swallowing reflex. If the stomach has shrunk, do not give the patient anything to eat, so that the stomach has enough room to hold the medication.

The advice of Traditional Medicine Practitioner Bui Duc Luc to prevent snake bites is not to catch snakes with bare hands. Whether in the house or in the yard, garden… always be alert for snakes. If unfortunately bitten by a snake, you must provide emergency treatment promptly, by taking the patient to a medical facility, or using traditional medicine as introduced.
