March 6, 2015 09:19

Defeating his highly rated opponent Djurabeck Karimov, Vietnam's number one tennis player advanced straight to the semi-finals of the Chang Thailand ITF Junior G1 tournament of the International Tennis Federation taking place in Nonthaburi (Thailand).

This tournament brings together many of the world's top young tennis players. Among them are Akira Santillan (ranked 12th in the ITF world junior system, seed number one), Djurabeck Karimov (ranked 24th, seed number two). The Vietnamese tennis player participates in the tournament as seed number 9 and is ranked 70th in the world junior.

After two wins, today, March 5, Hoang Nam entered the quarterfinals to meet Karimov - who reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open junior tournament in early 2015. Therefore, before the match, experts predicted that Hoang Nam would face many difficulties. However, the opposite happened when the Vietnamese tennis player played brilliantly and had a favorable victory.

Despite being overwhelmed by his opponent right from the first set when he broke his serve early and at one point led 3-1, Hoang Nam still played with confidence to equalize the score 5-5. He then won two consecutive games to end the first set with a score of 7-5.

In the second set, the Uzbek player suddenly withdrew due to health reasons. He seemed unable to bear the hot weather of 37-38 degrees Celsius in the Land of the Golden Pagoda. Thanks to that, Hoang Nam was awarded a 2-0 victory, reaching the semi-finals to meet fourth seed Marc Polmans (Australia) tomorrow, March 6. This is also a strong opponent, currently ranked 28th in the world junior rankings and earlier this year reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open junior tournament.

Yesterday, in round 3, Hoang Nam also caused a surprise when he defeated his opponent, seed number 6 Daniel Nolan, with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

In addition to the singles, the Vietnamese tennis star also teamed up with Daniel Nolan (Australia) to play men's doubles. This combination brought success to the Vietnamese tennis player when he reached the semi-finals to meet the second seeded pair Ito-Santillan (Japan).

The Chang Thailand ITF Group 1 Junior Tennis Tournament is Hoang Nam's first international tournament in the new year of the Goat. He is expected to be in Malaysia to compete from March 17. His goal is to improve his position to qualify for the 2015 French Open Junior Tournament.
