Vietnam's number one tennis player won convincingly in the singles event but said goodbye to the doubles event at the 56° Trofeo Bonfiglio youth tournament taking place in Milan, Italy.

In the second round of singles, Hoang Nam met American player Vasil Kirkov, ranked 160th in the world. Against an opponent 146 places below him, it was thought that Hoang Nam would have an easy victory. However, the reality was not as he expected.

After winning the break in the second game to lead 2-0, the Vietnamese player continuously let his opponent score points and then equalized 2-2. The tug of war continued until the score was 5-5, Hoang Nam demonstrated his mettle and skill to end the first set with a 7-5 victory.

With the psychological advantage as well as the habit of playing better and better, the tennis player from Tay Ninh easily won the second set with a score of 6-2, earning a ticket to the third round.

His next opponent is Taiwan's Tung Lin Wu, currently ranked 80th in the world junior rankings.

Before entering the singles event, Hoang Nam had to stop in the doubles event in the first round. The reason was not because of technical issues, but because his partner, Alberto Lim (Philippines), withdrew due to injury.

Hoang Nam is currently training in Italy to prepare for the Roland Garros youth tournament, so the matches on the clay court in Milan are very useful for him to gain experience and get familiar with the court surface.

At the upcoming Gland Slam junior tournament, Hoang Nam is ranked 11th seed - something unprecedented in the history of Vietnamese tennis.
