The 18-year-old tennis player made history in Vietnamese tennis after defeating the fourth seed pair in the final of a junior Grand Slam tournament on July 12.

The Tay Ninh native created a miracle for the country's tennis community, winning a junior Grand Slam tournament for the first time in history. Ly Hoang Nam and his teammate Sumit Nagal defeated the Reilly Opelka - Akira Santillan partnership in the final match with the scores of 7-6(4), 6-4 after one hour of play.

This title will give Hoang Nam more motivation on the long road ahead. Next year, when he turns 19, Nam will not be able to compete at the youth level. The Tay Ninh native will embark on a professional tennis career. Hoang Nam is currently ranked 1259th in the world. Experiences from the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the upcoming US Open will help Hoang Nam understand the environment of the world tennis village.

Seeded eighth, Hoang Nam's pair created a surprise when they defeated opponents seeded four places higher, especially against tennis player Opelka. The American tennis player was in very good form at this year's Wimbledon junior tournament when he won the singles event, which took place a few hours earlier. Perhaps the opponent's reduced physical strength helped Hoang Nam and his teammates win, but that could not reduce the value of the Cup that Nam won.

The Opelka/Santillan pair started the game better. In the first game, Hoang Nam served, but the opposing pair attacked fiercely, bringing the game to 40-40. An ace and a subsequent point helped Hoang Nam's pair avoid a break. Thanks to Opelka's good serve, the fourth seed pair put real pressure on their opponents. In the first set, Opelka's pair won 4 aces, with a 90% first-serve winning rate.

In the 10th game of the second set, Hoang Nam's pair won by a landslide, winning the decisive break. After a tug-of-war until the 11th game, Hoang Nam's pair unexpectedly won the break. The Vietnamese player shone with a strong shot, the heavy ball forced Santillan to block the ball out. It seemed like they could end the set early, but in the next game, Opelka's pair reclaimed the break. The set was a step towards tie-breaks. Both Nam and Nagal played very bravely to win the penalty shootout with a score of 7-4.

In the second set, the Opelka pair's first serves were less sharp. Hoang Nam's pair read their opponents' moves and returned serves effectively. The Opelka pair's first serve winning percentage dropped from 90% in the first set to 67% in the second set. The Opelka pair's self-inflicted errors were also twice as high as Hoang Nam's pair.
