On the club's homepage, Man Utd announced that they have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to buy defender Marcos Rojo, for 16 million pounds according to Sporting. The deal will be completed after Rojo passes the mandatory medical examination and agrees on personal terms with the Red Devils.
At the same time, Sporting also confirmed that Nani, 27 years old, is returning to the club on loan after 7 years joining Man Utd from Lisbon.
Rojo can play well at center back and left back. At the 2014 World Cup, he started 6 matches and contributed to Argentina reaching the final with a defense considered the most solid in the tournament.
The deal was announced just hours after Rojo told Argentine radio station Continental that it was a “dream come true” to play for Man Utd. Last week, Rojo skipped training after Sporting refused to accept the Red Devils’ offer, but he later apologised.
In a statement released to the Lisbon Stock Exchange, Sporting made public Man Utd's payment schedule in this deal. Specifically, Sporting will receive 8 million pounds immediately, 4 million will be paid on December 1 this year and the remaining 4 million will be paid on July 1 next year. In addition, they will receive an additional 20% of the transfer fee if Man Utd sells Rojo for a price higher than 18.4 million pounds.
Thus, Rojo will become Man Utd's third new player this summer, after midfielder Ander Herrera and left-back Luke Shaw.
