Rooney has been in very disappointing form this season. He has been benched for the majority of his career and has only scored 7 goals in 35 games in all competitions for MU. As a result, the British public has speculated that the 31-year-old striker will have to leave Old Trafford at the end of this season.
According to Sport Mail, coach Mourinho has made a calculation. The Portuguese coach really wants the service of striker Lukaku, who is currently playing for Everton. The Belgian striker will be the perfect replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic when this striker's contract expires and is likely not to be renewed due to a serious injury.
It is not easy to get Lukaku because he plays a very important role in Everton's squad. This season, the 24-year-old striker has 25 goals in all competitions and leads the "bombing" list in the Premier League with 24 goals.
Sport Mail said Everton would only let Lukaku leave if they received a transfer fee of £100 million. That is really a big challenge for MU and Chelsea, the team that just won the Premier League championship and also really want the Belgian striker.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, MU valued Rooney at around 17 million pounds and wanted to use him as "bait" for Everton. After all, Rooney is a player who grew up at Everton.
However, this intention is unlikely to come true. First of all, Everton will not sell Lukaku at a low price as MU wants because Chelsea is also participating in the competition for this signature. Besides, Everton will hardly meet the salary requirements of Rooney, who is receiving a salary of 250,000 pounds/week.
Rooney will leave MU at the end of this season but he does not want to be "bait". Because besides Everton, the 31-year-old striker can also go to China or the US to play with contracts that are certainly lucrative.
