Gradually fading folk games

(Baonghean) -Folk games are created by people closely associated with working life and daily activities, helping people have moments of relaxation and entertainment after hard working hours and also contributing to strengthening solidarity and attachment between each person.

Children are the ones who play folk games the most. It is the image of children gathering in groups of three or five under the banyan tree, in the cooperative yard, on the edge of the rice field playing hide and seek, playing marbles, playing pretend battles, playing dragon and snake up to the clouds... And with just stones, leaves, bamboo sticks, grass branches... they create really interesting, attractive and thrilling games.

Folk games are often accompanied by bright, gentle, humorous, easy-to-remember nursery rhymes. Children singing while playing makes the atmosphere of the game more exciting and bustling.

Volleyball game.

For example, in the game "Nu na nu nong", the children sit in a row with their legs stretched out in front of them. One child taps each foot to the rhythm of each word of the song:"Nu na nu nong/Beating drums and waving flags/ Opening a competition/ Beautiful foot competition/ Whose feet are clean/ Not dirty at all/ Get to beat the drum". Whoever hits the right foot at the end of the song gets a prize. The prize is sometimes just a guava or an orange, but it attracts children to participate enthusiastically. Or like in the game "Dragon snake up to the clouds": the children line up one by one, the child behind holds the shirt of the person in front, then all of them wriggle back and forth like a snake and start singing:"Dragon snake up to the clouds/There is a dice tree/There is a house that commands troops/Ask the"Doctor/Is he home or not…?"; As for the game "Cat and Mouse", one child plays the cat, one child plays the mouse, and everyone stands in a circle, holding hands and raising them high above their heads and singing:"Please come outHere/Hands clasped/Standing in a wide circle/The mouse slipped through the hole/The cat ran behind/Then the mouse/Played the role of the cat/Crouched down and ran after/The cat turned into a mouse." Just like that, the game became more and more attractive and captivated everyone because of its community nature, requiring quick, intelligent, and fun handling.

Folk games not only have games that require a lot of movement such as: hopscotch, blindfolded goat catching, cat and mouse, horse jumping... but also many games that require dexterity such as: volleyball, shuttlecock kicking, marble shooting, kite flying..., flexibility like in rainbow flipping, double jumping... or training the ability to judge and calculate accurately through the game of hopscotch... Each folk game has its own nuances, suitable for different interests and personalities of each child. Therefore, children can play all day without getting bored. Vietnamese folk games represent a unique and rich culture, not only helping children develop creativity, thinking, dexterity, and health training, but also a lesson to help children understand and love the national culture as well as foster love for family, homeland and country.

Dragon Snake Game

Unfortunately, in today's life, children have to approach modern, violent games. Traditional games are gradually fading away and children rarely play them, but instead, there are spectacular chases and continuous battles on computers. But how can these things replace children's daily contact with nature and the community? During summer vacation, children have to study a lot, there is no time for creative games like in the past. The abundance of material things, modern technology, and constraints on time and knowledge have made children passive, lacking courage and more rigid.
