He was previously accused of involvement in terrorist activities in East Africa and was listed on Interpol's "Red Notice". He is being investigated under the Security Crimes (Special Measures) Act 2012 and police are still searching for his possible weapons stash.

Meanwhile, sources said some members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group entered Malaysia posing as students of private universities and tourists. The source said the Al-Shabaab group planned to set up a base in Malaysia to hide its members from the authorities.

According to the US National Counterterrorism Center website, the Harakat al-Shabaab Mujahidin organization - commonly known as Al-Shabaab - is the military arm of the Somali Council of Islamic Courts, which took over most of southern Somalia in the second half of 2006.

Despite being defeated by Somali and Ethiopian forces in 2007, the Al-Shabaab group continues to wage violent insurgency in southern and central Somalia./.
