A large piece of debris found on Pemba Island, off the coast of Tanzania, in June has been officially confirmed as coming from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. The numbers on the debris helped confirm this.

Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said investigators are closely examining the debris for clues about the circumstances of MH370's disappearance.

The Boeing 777 went missing in March 2014 with 239 passengers and crew on board, shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

After more than two years of searching, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau said it had found four pieces that “almost certainly” belong to MH370.

Investigators have previously confirmed that debris found on Reunion Island in France last November is from MH370. They are also examining other debris from Mozambique, South Africa and Rodrigues Island.
