Manchester City are considering Ruben Amorim, current Sporting Lisbon manager, as a potential candidate to replace Pep Guardiola in 2025.

According to The Guardian, Man City's board of directors have begun searching for a successor to Guardiola, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

Ruben Amorim has impressed since taking charge at Sporting Lisbon in March 2020. Under his guidance, the team has won many important titles, including the 2020-2021 Portuguese League title, ending a 19-year wait for the title. He also brought home two League Cups and a Portuguese Super Cup, affirming Sporting's strength.

Amorim's close relationship with Hugo Viana, who is set to join City as director of football, is also a key factor in City's interest in the coach. If Guardiola decides to leave the club, Amorim could be an ideal replacement.

Guardiola's future is now under threat from the financial sanctions facing Manchester City. The club has been hit with 115 charges of financial misconduct, and if they are found guilty, they could face heavy penalties, including relegation. This makes Guardiola's decision to extend his contract or leave at the end of the season more difficult.

Although there have been rumours that Guardiola could take charge of England if he leaves the Etihad, this seems unlikely now that Thomas Tuchel has been confirmed to take over. Pep Guardiola will need to find another destination if he decides to leave Man City.
