"Man of Steel" is expected to dominate the screen.
British actor Henry Cavill has become the latest to don Superman's famous red cape in "Man of Steel," the $225 million blockbuster that hits theaters this week. The film is expected to be the start of a blockbuster series and top the US box office this summer.
The actor will star alongside actress Amy Adams (as reporter Lois Lane) and American star Russell Crowe (as father Jor-El) in the film, which was co-written by renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play the couple who raise Superman as Clark Kent after he lands in their garden in a spaceship from the doomed planet Krypton.
Henry Cavill says he has been a big fan of Superman since he was a child growing up in Jersey, in the British Channel Islands.
"I was a little boy running around the garden with a scarf around my neck and fighting with my brothers," he told AFP ahead of the film's release in the US (as well as in Vietnam) this weekend.
The 30-year-old actor was once dubbed "the unluckiest man in Hollywood" when he lost the role of James Bond to Daniel Craig in 2005 and then failed to get a role in "Superman Returns" (2006).
Then one day, he got a call from director Zack Snyder to play the legendary character once played by Christopher Reeva. Reeva starred in four Superman movies between 1978 and 1987 before being paralyzed in a horseback riding accident.
Henry Cavill had to train hard for five months and follow special diets to be able to have a muscular body like in the movie.
"I had to go through six weeks of intense training to do the shirtless scenes," Cavill shared about the scenes before Clark donned the famous Superman suit.

In addition to working out, Cavill also had to work on his accent to sound like a real American. His Oscar-nominated co-star Amy Adams said she was impressed by Cavill's "near-perfect" American accent and acting ability.
"He has a Superman look but with added vulnerability and gentleness."
She also said that kissing Superman wasn't as sweet as many people thought: "Everyone will be disappointed to know the truth that the kissing scenes are always purely technical instead of emotional."
"Man of Steel" will be a blockbuster filled with special effects, when Superman will have to confront General Zod (Michael Shannon), Jor-El's enemy, and his subordinates when they threaten to destroy Earth.
Adams revealed that although the film will be released worldwide on June 14, the actors actually finished filming two years ago. After that, the CGI artists started their work.
This will be the second CGI superhero movie this summer, after Marvel's "Iron Man 3". According to reviews from experts, "Man of Steel" is highly rated and there will likely be more sequels.

Cavill, in what is certainly the biggest role of his career to date, admits he would be happy to see more sequels. His contract gives the filmmakers the option to use him in two more installments."
"Nothing is set in stone yet, but time will tell. If there was a sequel, would I like it? Absolutely."
"I thought it would be interesting to continue telling this story."
