Man United - West Brom 2-0: Thank God, here's the goal!
The boos during the midweek game against CSKA Moscow were a call from United fans for more attacking football. They want to see goals.
If it weren't for Lingard's pass to Rooney in that match, Man United would have gone through four consecutive 0-0 draws, and Van Gaal would have been under enormous pressure.

Man United won, but not impressively |
In that match, despite many difficulties, it must be admitted that Man United played much faster, attacked more frequently and continuously pressed the visitors from Russia. Having a "genuine" winger like Lingard and bringing Rooney back to play as an attacking midfielder behind Martial were the main reasons that helped Man United play more freely.
For that reason, the Dutch coach kept the same lineup as in the midweek match against West Brom. It was no surprise that Man United completely controlled the game, dominated possession and continuously pressed their opponents. West Brom players only had two options: clear the ball out of play or pass it long to striker Rondon, and then Smalling won most of the challenges.
West Brom were almost harmless in attack, so all anyone could see was when United would score. In the first half, they did not play as well as they did against CSKA, only really playing fast at the beginning and end of the half. Man United's clearest chances were when Mata faced Myhill but unfortunately missed the post and Martial's extremely fast shot went straight at the West Brom goalkeeper. Old Trafford fans had to witness another goalless first half.
Lingard is the savior again
Luckily, this time they didn't have to wait as long as midweek. What Man United had been waiting for had come. Early in the second half, from a cross from the left wing by Martial, the reluctant left-back Chris Brunt failed to clear the ball, the ball fell to Lingard and the youngster had a perfect curl into the far corner, opening the score for Man United. After playing quite well in the past time and winning a starting position, Lingard continued to show why Van Gaal trusted him to start.
In the remaining minutes, Man United continued to press and attack West Brom, but did not create any significant opportunities until the end of the match. From a counter-attack, Herrera launched a perfect pass for Martial to accelerate. McAuley was forced to commit a foul in the penalty area, receiving a red card and leaving the field. Mata made no mistake and successfully converted the penalty to increase the score to 2-0, sealing the victory for Man United.
So after 5 matches, since the 3-0 win over Everton, Man United have only scored more than 1 goal. This is still not a pleasing victory for Man United, as they still control the game, have a lot of possession but have not created enough clear opportunities. Man United's two goals were mostly due to mistakes by West Brom defenders. Man United's attackers have not really done well in the final passes or shots. But the important thing is that they have won to continue chasing Man City and Arsenal.
Man United continued to have another clean sheet, and the attack is playing better. After a stormy period, everything is gradually returning to orbit. The upcoming international break is necessary for Man United to welcome back some injured soldiers and continue the campaign in the two arenas of Champions League and Premier League.
