Man Utd joins race for 13-year-old prodigy

Man Utd are the latest name to jump into the race to own the signature of Foday Nabay, Birmingham City's teenage talent.

The central midfielder, who turns 14 next month, is regarded as one of England's most promising talents and will cause a stir in the transfer market after his contract with Birmingham expires.

With ties having been severed with Foday Nabay's St. Andrews outfit, the Premier League giants will be free to approach the Sierra Leone-born player.

Birmingham will receive a so-called training fee, but a former academy coach told Sportsmail that £65,000 – the compensation – is a bargain for a player with Nabay’s potential.

Currently, a series of English giants such as the Manchester duo, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all shown interest in the player who used to play for the England U.16 team.

Earlier this month it was reported that the African midfielder had joined Liverpool but that all turned out to be just rumours.

And Man Utd are planning to bring Nabay to their youth academy with talks expected to take place tomorrow.

Contacts between Nabay's representatives with Liverpool and Arsenal have been promoted, and today an official meeting with Aston Villa will also be held by Nabay.

Also from Sportmail, the midfielder who has scored 12 goals for Birmingham's youth team has not completely ruled out re-signing with The Blues. The reason is that although he is being pursued by many big names, Nabay is sober enough to realize that only at St. Andrews Stadium, this player has many opportunities to be promoted to the first team soon.

At Birmingham, Nabay broke Trevor Francis' previous record of being the youngest player to play for the club at the age of 16 years and 139 days.
