Bringing the world to students

(Baonghean.vn) - Although only established for over a year, the English Club, Faculty of Economics, Vinh University (Economic English Club - EEC) has become a familiar "home" for English students. From its initial size of only 7-10 members with a burning passion for English, EEC has grown stronger and stronger with 300 members.

The EEC English Club was established to promote the use of English among students of the Faculty of Economics. Pham Thi Thanh Hoa (Founder of the Club) shared: “We want to provide students with a useful and friendly playground to improve a range of skills such as fundraising, event organization and teamwork. The English Club also creates opportunities for students to practice English and communication skills, which are the things that members care about the most”.

EEC aims to take the pedantic out of learning English by making it fun. With this motto, when joining EEC, members will have the opportunity to improve not only their academic performance but also their general English skills and understanding in an exciting way.

Held twice a week, each session offers a very interesting and new approach to each topic through stories, video clips, images or games, bringing excitement to members. Here, it also attracts a number of foreign teachers to participate, creating opportunities for students to exchange and chat, helping them improve their English communication skills, accumulate more structures and vocabulary.

Extracurricular activities with foreigners are held regularly.

Contrary to the common misconceptions of students that the English Club is a place to live and study English with dry language documents and textbooks, EEC is proud to be a student club that organizes events in English very professionally, attracting not only students of the Faculty of Economics but also students from other faculties and international friends in Vinh city.

EEC's outstanding events include "The Amazing Race"; "Halloween Night"; a series of monthly themed activities in English with a variety of interesting activities and games to stimulate students' English reflexes. Comprehensive training in teamwork, presentation, English, Rin learning, and management skills for 50 students with the aim of creating a generation of leaders who can build a dynamic English community.

The activities were open and fun. The punishment for the loser was also "very student-like": girls had to do 20 push-ups, boys had to do 40.

Last September, the club organized a one-month B1 English course for all students and received encouraging results: 80% of students confidently passed the B1 exam. Dau Ha Linh (student of the Faculty of Finance, valedictorian of the B1 exam) shared: "EEC not only helps students approach English in a new and more interesting way, but is also a training environment that helps them become more confident and bold. Moreover, EEC is truly a home where we can record beautiful memories of our student days."

With its active, positive and enthusiastic activities, the English Club of the Faculty of Economics received a Certificate of Merit from the Vinh University Youth Union for its outstanding achievements in the Youth Union and youth movement.

The exciting activities of EEC have helped students connect with the larger social community and most importantly, they will be able to develop soft skills that will help secure future jobs when they leave school and enter the challenging real-life working environment.
