(Baonghean) - An account called Missing People on Twitter will post information about a missing child every 30 minutes with the help of top stars from the UK.

Comedian Stephen Fry and music producer Simon Cowell are among a number of celebrities who have joined a Twitter campaign to help find missing children. The X Factor host and judge have urged their nearly 22 million Twitter followers to donate to the charity Missing People.

The organization held a “Big Tweet” event on May 25, on the occasion of International Missing Children Day. For 24 hours, the organization will post a call for information about a missing child every 30 minutes and encourage people to share this information as much as possible.

“Hopefully this year we can help reunite more missing children with their families,” Cowell said.

Meanwhile, artist Fry said: “This is a very simple thing and there is no reason to refuse.

participate. Spreading information about children through social media is a simple, yet effective way because the calls spread quickly and widely.

“I was so impressed by how the Twitter community responded last year – an incredible 58,000 retweets in one day. Two missing children were found as a result. That was invaluable,” he added.

Kate McCann, mother of Madeleine, who has been missing since May 2007, also attended the event. She said the programme “takes full advantage of social media” and stressed: “Every pair of eyes, every pair of ears makes a huge difference to the search.”

According to Missing People, around 140,000 children go missing in the UK every year.
