Impersonating police to defraud motel owner

On the morning of March 29, the People's Court of Do Luong district opened a mobile court to try the crime of property theft against defendant Nguyen Quang Viet (born 1991) in hamlet 13, Minh Son commune, Do Luong district.

According to the indictment of the Do Luong District Court, on the night of December 24, 2016, while taking a taxi with Mr. Pham Van Duong from Vinh City to Dien Chau District, Nguyen Quang Viet stole from Mr. Pham Van Duong an ATM card and a driver's license.

On December 25, 2016, Viet continued to call and asked Mr. Duong to take him back to Do Luong district. On the way, Mr. Duong told Viet that although he lost his driver's license and ATM card, luckily the password paper was not lost. While talking, Mr. Duong showed him the ATM card password paper, Viet saw it and remembered the password.

After that, Viet went to the ATM of the Vietnam Development Investment Bank, Do Luong branch, and stole 3,900,000 VND from Mr. Duong's account. While withdrawing money, Viet pretended to borrow Mr. Duong's phone to play video games, but in reality, he was trying to delete the withdrawal notification message on his phone.

On January 13, 2017, while staying at motel 68 in Lac Son commune (Do Luong), Viet lied to Ms. Hong - the owner of the motel Viet, that he was a police officer of PC64 under the Ministry of Public Security and defrauded and appropriated 4,600,000 VND from Ms. Hong and then fled.

After realizing she was cheated, Ms. Hong filed a complaint with the Do Luong district police.

Viet had previously been arrested for fraud and appropriation of property. While on bail, Viet committed another crime.

On January 16, 2017, Viet was arrested by Do Luong district police in Xuan Son commune and prosecuted for property appropriation.

The People's Court of Do Luong District sentenced defendant Viet to 12 months in prison for theft, 15 months in prison for fraud, and a total of 12 months in prison for the previous sentence that has not yet been executed. The total sentence for defendant Viet is 3 years and 3 months in prison and Viet must return all the stolen and fraudulent money to the victims./.
