According to the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, due to the influence of the southern edge of the western low pressure area with the southwest wind causing the foehn effect (dry and hot), on May 17, heat waves continued to occur widely in the North with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-36 degrees, some places above 36 degrees and in the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-37 degrees, some places above 38 degrees. The time with temperatures above 35 degrees is from 12-16 hours.
The hot weather in the Central provinces is forecast to last for many days to come (until around May 21-22).
