Conflict in boarding house, beat someone to death

Due to conflicts while living in a boarding house, a group of young men used a knife handle and a tree branch to beat one person to death and injured another.

On the morning of November 21, Hanoi People's Court opened the first instance trial of Nguyen Kieu Vu (born 1996, Dong Da, Hanoi) and his accomplices for the crime of Murder under Clause 1, Article 93 of the Penal Code.

In addition to Vu, Vuong Duc Hung, Nguyen Duc Anh, and Pham Ba Thao (all in Hanoi) are accomplices also prosecuted for the above crime.

The first instance trial was adjourned due to the absence of the victim's representative and the lawyer of one defendant.

According to the investigation records, around 2003, Dao Thanh Huyen (born in 1995, from Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province) rented a room and lived in Dinh Cong (Hoang Mai, Hanoi).

In February 2015, Huyen met and fell in love with Nguyen Kieu Vu (born in 1996, Dong Da, Hanoi). Vu then moved in with Huyen as husband and wife. During their stay, the two had a conflict with Nguyen Cong Tuan (born in 1993, from Phu Ly City, Ha Nam), who lived in the house opposite.

In June 2016, Vu invited a friend, Nguyen Duc Anh, to beat Tuan, so Tuan had to move elsewhere.

At around 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2017, Nguyen Cong Tuan, Vu Xuan Loi (born in 1987, from Thai Binh) and Nguyen Trung Kien (born in 1995, from Thai Nguyen), who were colleagues, went out to eat and drink at Dinh Cong urban area (Hoang Mai, Hanoi).

After eating, the three of them returned to their room. When they got near the area where Dao Thanh Huyen rented a room, Tuan thought back and felt frustrated about the previous conflict, so he invited Loi and Kien to come and resolve the conflict.

When they arrived, Tuan stood outside banging on the door and cursing. Kien and Loi stood outside. At this time, Huyen used her phone to call Vu and said that Tuan had come to the room to beat Huyen.

Vu was playing video games with Vuong Duc Hung, Nguyen Duc Anh, and Pham Ba Thao at a game shop in Dinh Cong, so he invited these three people to Huyen's room to resolve the matter.

At this time, Vu saw Huyen holding her head so he turned to ask Tuan: "Why do we have to be like this?", Tuan replied, "I like fighting", Vu continued "if you like fighting, go somewhere else, this is their place".

A moment later, Tuan, Kien, and Loi went to the entrance of alley 245, Dinh Cong street to talk. Here, Tuan called his co-worker to come to alley 245, Dinh Cong street to support.

These people then came to advise Tuan to return home, but he insisted on returning to Huyen's boarding house to settle things. Knowing that Tuan was showing signs of being drunk, everyone in the group followed him, leaving Tuan standing outside the door cursing Huyen.

Then, Vu, Thao, Hung, and Duc Anh went to get a knife and a billiard cue and went to alley 245 to solve the problem.

When they got there, Kien's group standing at the end of the alley saw Vu's group holding knives and ran away. A moment later, Vu returned near the gate of the boarding house and stabbed Loi with a knife. At the same time, Duc Anh used a billiard cue to hit Loi many times in the head.

Seeing Tuan dragging Huyen out of the gate, Vu's group rushed in to chase and beat him, causing Tuan to run into Huyen's room and lock the door. After that, Vu and Hung took weapons to beat Tuan. After committing the crime, Vu's group fled, and Nguyen Cong Tuan was taken to the emergency room and died at the hospital.

On January 12, 2017, Vu and Hung were arrested, Duc Anh and Thao surrendered to the police.

At today's first instance trial, due to the absence of the victim's representative and a defendant's lawyer, the panel of judges decided to adjourn the trial and will reopen it on November 30./.
