The administration of US President Donald Trump on June 3 announced a ban on Chinese airlines flying to the US from June 16.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the decision on June 3 to punish China for failing to comply with an agreement on flights between the two countries. The decision is also intended to pressure China to allow U.S. airlines to resume service between the two countries.

According to the US decision, 6 Chinese airlines will be banned from flying to the US including Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. Currently, Chinese airlines are still operating 4 round-trip flights to the US per week.

Two US airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines, have requested to resume flights to China this June. Both airlines have welcomed the decision of the US Department of Transportation. The Chinese Embassy in Washington has yet to respond to this information./.
