Russian SU-30 fighter jets scrambled after detecting US reconnaissance UAV flying over the Black Sea
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the crew of a Russian Su-30 fighter jet was ordered to take off in connection with the detection of a US Air Force MQ-9A Reaper reconnaissance UAV over the Black Sea.
"To identify an air target and prevent violations of the state border of the Russian Federation, a Su-30 fighter of the air defense forces was ordered to take off into the air to perform a mission. The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air target as a US Air Force MQ-9A "Reaper" reconnaissance UAV," the statement said.
A foreign reconnaissance drone over the Black Sea, when approaching a Russian Su-30 fighter, turned around and left the Russian border. There was no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation.
The Russian aircraft returned safely to the airport. The flight of the Russian fighter jet was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace in compliance with security measures.
