This is a hybrid aircraft and airship. It broke free from its mast and crashed into a field in Bedfordshire. According to witnesses, the craft hit trees, damaging the hull and causing a helium leak. The 10-ton Airlander was completely destroyed.
On Friday, Hybrid Air Vehicles, the manufacturer of the Airlander 10, successfully conducted a test flight. The cost of construction is up to one hundred million pounds, - according to the Daily Mail.
The Airlander 10 was originally designed for the US armed forces, but the project was canceled due to lack of funding.
The 92-meter-long aircraft can reach an altitude of 4.9 kilometers and develop a speed of up to 148 kilometers per hour. Thanks to helium, the Airlander 10 can stay in the air for two weeks./.
