According to a VNA reporter in Geneva, the world's first and only solar-powered plane (Solar Impulse) from Switzerland has completed a transcontinental flight (from Europe to Africa and vice versa) of nearly 6,000km without using a drop of fuel.
Solar Impulse landed safely at Payerne military airport, Switzerland at 20:30 (local time) on July 24.
The final leg of the transcontinental flight was from Madrid, Spain via Toulouse, France to Payerne, Switzerland, and was flown by pilot Bertrand Piccard, co-founder of the Solar Impulse project with astronaut André Borschberg.

Starting from May 24, the transcontinental journey from Europe to Africa and vice versa of SSolar ImpulseIt made eight flights under the rotating command of astronauts Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg.
In total, Solar Impulse spent 13 hours and 29 minutes flying over a distance of nearly 6,000km over the cities of Madrid, Spain, Rabat and Ouarzazate in Morocco and the city of Toulouse, France, an area considered very difficult for air traffic due to frequent strong winds.
According to experts, the Solar Impulse flights this time show the great efficiency of solar energy technology, and also clearly show the ability of solar-powered devices to operate both day and night./.
