Plane crash in Indonesia leaves 6 dead and injured

A small plane crashed on Indonesia's easternmost island of Papua province on August 12 while trying to land in bad weather conditions, killing at least one person and seriously injuring five others.

According to AFP, a Cessna plane operated by Komala Air crashed onto the runway of Ninia airport in Yahukimo district.

There were six people on board the plane at the time. One technician died while the pilot and four passengers were seriously injured and taken to hospital.

A witness said the plane landed in strong winds.

The plane, which took off from the city of Wamena in Papua, is commonly used for transport in remote Papua islands, where bad weather has been blamed for several plane crashes in recent years.
