The recycling company CleanBayArea reports that a California woman, while cleaning out her home after her husband's death, brought his belongings to an electronics recycling center. Unbeknownst to her, the woman discovered an Apple I among the "junk," one of the first 200 computers designed by Steve Wozniak and his friends in 1976, worth up to $200,000. CleanBayArea is currently trying to contact the unnamed woman, but the search appears to be fruitless.

In 1976, the Apple I was one of the first personal computers and sold for $666.66. At the time, the Apple I had a rather basic design, lacking a screen and having only 8 KB of RAM. Later, the Apple II was more successful than the Apple I and quickly became a pioneering product in the laptop computer market.

In the 1970s and 80s, computers weren't typically manufactured on an industrial scale like they are today. Furthermore, the limited production of the Apple I, along with its status as a symbol of the technological "success story," led many collectors to be willing to spend considerable sums to own one.
