Excavator falls onto railway, traffic paralyzed for more than 6 hours
(Baonghean.vn) - At 9:30 p.m. on May 7, a rare accident occurred on the North-South railway in Quynh Tan commune, Quynh Luu district, paralyzing the railway system until 4:45 a.m. this morning (May 8) when the line was reopened.

Accordingly, the truck with license plate 37S - 9164 driven by Cao Xuan Quang (born in 1967, residing in hamlet 7, Quynh Tan commune, Quynh Luu district) was carrying an excavator on the Quynh Van - Quynh Tan inter-commune road. Due to careless tying, when the vehicle had just reached the top of the highest slope (about 10 meters from the railway), the excavator suddenly slipped off the rope and fell onto the railway at km 254 +310 (a curved area far from residential areas in hamlet 7, Quynh Tan commune).
Luckily, just a few minutes later, railway patrol worker Nguyen Duc Thanh (Quynh Van route, Thanh Hoa Railway Management Company Limited) discovered it and urgently informed the TN2 train traveling from Vinh to Hanoi to stop 800m away, saving a tragic accident.

After more than 6 hours of rescue efforts with more than 100 employees from Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, along with machinery and a 70-ton crane from Vinh City, the railway industry was able to lift the excavator onto the train car using a specialized crane and bring it to Cau Giat station and open the train at 3:45 this morning. As a result, a series of North-South Thong Nhat trains and Vinh-Hanoi tourist trains such as SE1, SE2, SE3, SE4, SE19, TN2, NA1, NA2 were delayed for many hours. Not to mention the inter-route freight trains.

Currently, the Quynh Luu District Traffic Police are working with the railway industry to handle the violation and compensate the railway industry. It is worth mentioning that the vehicle carrying the excavator had a registered load capacity of less than 2 tons, but the vehicle was carrying an excavator weighing over 4 tons.
