(Baonghean) - Anyone who has ever met Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - Head of the Department of Neonatology, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital will surely have a lasting impression of the gentle, thoughtful and enthusiastic attitude of a doctor who has been dedicated to taking care of newborns and young children here.
Born into a family with a tradition of medicine, Ms. Huong was determined to enter Thai Binh Medical University. In 1987, after graduating, she applied to work at Nghe Tinh Children's Hospital (now Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) and was assigned to the Respiratory Department. Every day, witnessing newborn babies suffering from serious illnesses, some of whom had to be put on ventilators and had to rely on special support, she felt more and more that she needed to be dedicated and committed to her profession. In her mind, those little bodies not only needed medicine and the right treatment regimens, but also needed the love of doctors and nurses like a mother's love, and she and her colleagues worked tirelessly to save many newborns and many extremely dangerous cases without making any mistakes.

In 2006, due to work requirements, she was assigned to the Planning and Synthesis Department as Deputy Head of the Department. While planning the hospital's "motherly" activities and doing very hard professional work, she still tried to complete the assigned tasks. In 2012, she was trusted by the hospital leadership to be promoted to Head of the Neonatal Department and has been there since then.
In her new position as the department's leader, she always worries and thinks about how to make the department develop more and more, and make the family members satisfied with the working style of the medical staff here. With those concerns, she has led the department for many years to excellently complete professional tasks and emulation movements; the department's target is only 40 beds, the number of pediatric patients treated always exceeds 1.4 times. However, professional regulations are strictly followed; safe treatment techniques are performed, no mistakes occur; the spirit and attitude of the department's staff, medical staff and doctors are commented as thoughtful, attentive, especially the department's staff actively responds to the movement "Say no to envelopes". Therefore, in the past time, the Department of Neonatology has not received any complaints about service attitude, or harassment of pediatric patients' families...
Despite being in a leadership position, Ms. Huong still cares about each seriously ill patient and those with difficult family circumstances. When she has time, she still goes down to the hospital room to personally take care of seriously ill children who need long-term treatment. Ms. Huong confided: "I consider taking care of sick children not only as a doctor's responsibility, but also with love like taking care of my own children and grandchildren and consider them as relatives and blood relatives in the family, then I feel that I can stick with this profession for a long time."
In addition to her professional work, she also cares and pays attention to the thoughts and feelings of the staff in the department, creating favorable conditions for them to participate in classes to improve their professional qualifications and skills, and helping colleagues complete their tasks. Although busy with her professional work, Dr. Huong devotes herself to researching new treatment methods to serve the care and treatment of children, contributing to reducing the rate of diseases in newborns. Up to now, she has participated in many grassroots-level projects that have been accepted such as "Research to propose some solutions to prevent and treat autism in children under 6 years old in Nghe An", "Assessment of the situation of hospital infections at the Department of Neonatology, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in 2013"...
With her constant efforts and striving, for 4 consecutive years she has been recognized as a Grassroots Emulation Fighter, receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Labor Federation for her many achievements in emulation work. In particular, on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27, 2014, Ms. Huong was honored to receive the title "Example of Medical Ethics in 2012 - 2013" from the Provincial People's Committee.
