Mother built a 'bunker' to imprison her daughter
The mentally ill mother used a cat chain to chain her daughter up every time it was bedtime, and used a sharp knife to threaten to cut her daughter's leg tendons because she suspected she was using drugs.
Since the beginning of the year, Ms. M. has applied for leave from school for her child and then hired someone to build a sealed "bunker" in the middle of the house, about 20 square meters in size. The area of the "bunker" is only enough for a child to lie down and stretch his legs. Outside the "bunker", the two doors are always locked.
Inside the "bunker", a 9-year-old girl was sitting on a mattress practicing writing, right next to her was a potty for urine. The girl said she was not allowed to go to school and had been locked up there by her mother for a month. She was not allowed to go out, all her daily activities from eating, sleeping to personal hygiene were confined in the "bunker".
Every day, Ms. M. only opens the door to bring food to her child or help her daughter with the toilet, and then locks the door twice. Explaining her actions, she said that in the past, H. was often abused by her father and brother and forced to use drugs. So she had to build a "bunker" in the middle of the house to protect her child.
Ms. M. said that in the past, she often used a cat chain to chain her daughter, not letting her go anywhere because she was afraid that if she left her, her father and uncle would harm her.
"I only chain him up at night, when I'm sleeping and can't watch him, so I have to chain his legs and then chain him to the bed," the mother said.
And to "wean her child off drugs," every day M. gave her a medicine that she said had the effect of detoxifying liver enzymes.
A neighbor said that last year, when Ms. M. brought her daughter back to her mother's house in group 11, Phuc Dong ward, Long Bien, Hanoi, she witnessed Ms. M. chaining her daughter up and threatening to cut her daughter's leg tendons with a sharp knife because she suspected that the girl had used drugs smuggled in by her father and uncle.
"That day she locked herself inside. The child cried and begged for her mother. We were outside knocking on the door but she refused to open it. This woman showed signs of mental illness to torture her child like that," the neighbor recalled.
"When we asked: How long do you plan to keep your daughter locked up like that, Ms. M. said that she had filed a complaint against her husband and brother for repeatedly raping and poisoning her daughter with drugs, but it was not resolved. So she will continue to keep her daughter locked up until her husband and brother are arrested."
The truth of the story
Ms. M. and Mr. C. got married in 1996 and have two children together. The eldest son is in 10th grade and the youngest daughter, H., is 9 years old. At first, they lived happily, then suddenly Ms. M. suspected that her husband was abusing and poisoning their children with drugs.
Ms. M. took her daughter to live with her parents and always tried to isolate her daughter, not allowing her to contact with people around her. When she returned to her parents' house, she continued to suspect her brother of raping and forcing her daughter to use synthetic drugs. Ms. M. and Mr. C. have been separated for many years. Every time Mr. C. came to visit his daughter, his wife prevented him from seeing her.
For many months now, the police of Phuc Dong ward and Long Bien district have received a complaint from Ms. Nguyen Thi M. (in Phuc Dong ward, Long Bien, Hanoi) about her daughter, Trinh Ngoc H. (9 years old), being repeatedly raped and poisoned with drugs by her father and uncle.
After receiving Ms. M's petition, the police conducted a verification and concluded that Ms. M's accusation was untrue. On June 18, 2013, Ms. M continued to file a complaint to PC-45, Hanoi City Police, accusing her husband and brother of inhumanely abusing her daughter.
Hanoi police have requested an assessment from the National Institute of Expertise on whether or not H. was abused. On June 27, 2013, the National Institute of Expertise concluded that H. had never been abused.
Regarding the mother's accusation that her child was poisoned with drugs by her father and uncle, the Women's Health Care and Counseling Center, located at Duc Giang General Hospital - Gia Lam - Hanoi, has test results showing that the girl tested negative for drugs.
