Microsoft surprises by 'leapfrogging' to Windows 10
"Forget Windows 9", that's the message Microsoft wants to send to millions of Windows users around the world at the launch of the latest version of this operating system.
Microsoft has officially introduced the next version of the Windows operating system at an event in San Francisco. The surprise is that the successor to Windows 8 is not Windows 9 or some of the names that have been rumored, but Windows 10. The "software giant" seems to have anticipated the surprise of the technology world about this bold decision.

The latest version of Windows will not only come with the Metro user interface. Windows 10 is considered the perfect combination of the sleek interface of Windows 8 and the familiar, convenient features of Windows 7. According to statistics from Net Applications, up to now, Windows 7 is still the most popular operating system in the world with more than 51% of users. While the total number of Windows 8 and 8.1 users only accounts for about 13%.
Windows 10 will also be available on most devices from desktops, laptops to smartphones and tablets. Many new features are also included in this version such as the "makeover" of the Start button along with the traditional Menu interface. Users who prefer touch screens or are loyal to keyboard and mouse will also have the best experience. Terry Myerson, vice president and in charge of the Windows division, said this is a significant leap and that skipping Windows 9 was the best decision for the company, although this name was expected to be the official name for the latest version of Windows released this year.

Microsoft has spent more than 2 years preparing for this grand launch, since Windows 8 was introduced in October 2012. Immediately upon its launch, Windows 8 received a lot of criticism for breaking many important elements that were present in Windows 7 and bringing an eye-catching but inflexible Metro interface.
According to initial information, Windows 10 will be released at the end of 2015. Windows 8 users may be upgraded for free although the expected price has not been revealed. Currently, users can try the Technical Preview version before Microsoft releases the official version.
