Rally in response to World Environment Day (June 5)

(Baonghean.vn) –On the morning of June 3, at Nguyen Tat Thanh Park (Vinh City), Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a rally in response to World Environment Day (June 5).Attending the ceremony were comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of departments, branches, provincial organizations, wards and communes in the city and hundreds of students.

The theme of World Environment Day on June 5 this year is: “Think about the environment before consuming food”,to contribute to changing people's awareness in choosing and using foods that have less impact on the environment, increasing the application of solutions to reduce pollution,green consumptionand rational use of natural resources.

In response to World Environment Day, in Vinh City in recent days, many meaningful activities have taken place such as mobilizing all classes of people to clean the environment, collect waste, dredge ponds, canals, etc. Nearly 500 banners and slogans were hung on main roads, central areas in districts and especially in Vinh City and Cua Lo town; over 600 radio discs broadcast the message of World Environment Day 2013:“Think about the environment before consuming food”sent to 100% of communes, wards and towns; cultural centers; provincial and district radio stations for propaganda to raise awareness and change food consumption habits to protect the environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said: The application of scientific and technological advances in production has contributed to meeting and eventually exceeding the local food demand. However, in urban areas, food waste has occurred, while many people in mountainous areas are hungry. The amount of waste has increased, environmental pollution is occurring in many areas, and many types of unsafe food still exist on the market.

At the ceremony, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee called on all people to save on food consumption and avoid waste to protect the environment.
