Rally in response to World Tuberculosis Day
At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan called on people from all walks of life to actively prevent tuberculosis for their own health, their families' health and that of society.
Responding to the "National Action Month for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control 2012", this morning (March 18), in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross in coordination with the National Tuberculosis Prevention Program organized a rally in response to "World Tuberculosis Day (March 24)" and a walking program with the theme "Tuberculosis Prevention for Public Health", with over 5,000 participants. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan attended and launched the campaign.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed that over the past time, the national tuberculosis prevention program has achieved many results such as: Building a nationwide tuberculosis prevention network; annually detecting and curing nearly 1,000 tuberculosis patients of all types; mobilizing domestic and foreign organizations and the community to participate in tuberculosis prevention work. The situation of tuberculosis, HIV tuberculosis, and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is at a high level.
On the other hand, the tuberculosis control program has not received due attention, there is a lack of staff in tuberculosis control work at all levels, investment funding is inadequate, facilities are still lacking, equipment is poor and outdated, and mainly relies on aid.

The Deputy Prime Minister also said that authorities at all levels must consider tuberculosis prevention as one of the socio-economic development targets of the locality.
The Ministry of Health, the Red Cross and localities have plans to prevent tuberculosis more drastically and effectively, to achieve the goal of reducing the tuberculosis incidence rate by half compared to 2000 by 2015; reducing the tuberculosis death rate by half compared to 2000, and before 2030, removing Vietnam from the list of 22 countries with the highest tuberculosis incidence and death rates in the world.
Vietnam currently ranks 12th out of 22 countries with the highest number of tuberculosis patients in the world, and 14th out of 27 countries with a high burden of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis globally. Every year, Vietnam
On this occasion, the National Tuberculosis Control Program also coordinated with the Red Cross, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the World Health Organization, and the Youth Union to organize many practical activities such as: Issuing domestically and internationally the stamp set "For a Tuberculosis-Free Vietnam"; organizing a writing contest on tuberculosis with the theme "Breath of Life"; youth discussion on tuberculosis prevention...
In particular, at the rally, 500 people participated in donating blood for the health of tuberculosis patients and the community.
After the rally, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan visited and presented gifts to patients at the Central Lung Hospital./.
