“Previously, when working in the southern provinces, I had time to learn and gain experience in raising civets on large farms. Raising civets is not too difficult, does not require a large area of land and, importantly, does not pollute the environment so it can be raised in residential areas,” said Mr. Cu. Photo: TP

The mink cage is quite simple, an iron cage 80cm high and 60cm wide. The iron cage is arranged on a stand about 1m above the ground to keep it airy, avoid humidity and make it easy to clean the cage. Photo: TP

The cage is equipped with cameras, thermometers, ceiling fans, ventilation fans and a cooling system. The cage is divided into separate areas: an area for raising individuals, an area for raising married minks, an area for raising newborn minks... Depending on the stage of development, minks will be kept in cages at a ratio of 1-2 or more minks. Photo: TP

On average, each year, a mother mink can give birth to 2 litters, each litter of 3-6 minks. Breeding minks are sold after 4 months at a price of 14 million VND/pair; commercial minks cost from 1.5-1.9 million VND/kg. Photo: TP

Mr. Cu said: “The most difficult thing in raising civets is that there is no vaccine to prevent or treat the disease. Therefore, the most important thing in raising civets is that the cage system must be airy, cool in the summer, warm in the winter and always clean. The person taking care of the civets must understand the characteristics of the species, in order to have appropriate care methods. Currently, I am using vaccines to prevent diseases for dogs and cats to apply to the civets. After 5 years of raising them, I see that the civets are healthy and reproduce well,” said Mr. Duc.
