(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the increasingly degraded indigenous varieties, affecting productivity and farming efficiency, from 2015 to present, with the support of the provincial Agricultural Extension Center, Nghi Loc district has gradually improved the quality of purebred varieties, then summarized and widely replicated.

Previously, people often used peanuts from the previous crop as seeds, without any choice, leading to degenerated varieties and low productivity. Therefore, since 2003, Nghi Loc has begun to restore the L14 peanut variety. With a yield of 16 - 17 quintals/sao, Nghi Loc district produces an average of nearly 8,000 tons of peanuts each year. Thanks to the regular and better quality of peanuts, the value has increased by an average of 25-30% compared to before. The L14 pure peanut model in Nghi Khanh commune covers an area of 10 hectares, in which people are supported with 50% of the seed cost and is very suitable for poor sandy soil. From these models, up to now, the whole Nghi Loc district has had 90% of the total of nearly 3,000 hectares of peanuts planted with L14 variety. HN6 rice variety is being grown in Hamlet 9, Nghi Hoa Commune. Under normal care conditions, the 1 hectare HN6 rice model is growing very well and is expected to be harvested in about a month. With a yield of about 65 - 70 quintals/ha and a short growing period (from 85 - 90 days), HN6 purebred rice is very suitable for low-lying land conditions lacking irrigation water but often flooded like Nghi Loc. It is expected that in the coming summer-autumn crop, Nghi Loc district will continue to expand the HN6 purebred rice area to about 30 hectares. Photo: Nguyen Hai |

With many advantages of HN6 rice, in fact, before the district agricultural extension model was implemented, some households tried planting it and got very good results. Initially, the district supported 100% of the cost of buying seeds. Photo: Nguyen Hai |

Besides peanut L14 and pure rice variety HN6, in the past 5 years, chives have been a high-income native crop in Nghi Loc. Encouraged and supported by the district, the area of chives has increased from only a few dozen hectares in 2013 to over 220 hectares in the whole district today. Recently, each sao of chives is intercropped and intercropped with other crops (corn or tobacco), so the income is quite good, averaging 15-20 million/sao.
