Expanding the administrative boundaries of Vinh city

(NAO) Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just signed and issued Decree No. 45/2008/ND-CP to adjust the administrative boundaries of communes, wards and districts in Nghe An province, including Vinh city.

The expansion of Vinh city's administrative boundaries is to implement Decision No. 239/2005/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the project "Developing Vinh city to become the economic and cultural center of the North Central region", which identifies the function of Vinh city as the growth engine and solving important tasks of economic development of Nghe An province and the North Central region; the center for training human resources and the key point of science and technology, culture, sports, and health of the North Central region.

From now until 2010, Vinh city (Nghe An) will expand its administrative boundaries to include 4 more communes of Nghi Loc district (Nghi Kim, Nghi An, Nghi Lien, Nghi Duc) and 2 communes of Hung Nguyen district (Hung Chinh, Hung Thinh). By 2020, Vinh city will expand its area to 250 km2, 4 times larger than the present, and bring its population to 800,000 people, an increase of 560,000 people compared to the present. After expansion, the area of ​​Vinh city will include the current Vinh city and the entire area of ​​Cua Lo town, the southern part of Nghi Loc district, the northern part of Hung Nguyen district. The west is Vinh bypass, the south is Lam river and the east is the East Sea.

It is known that Vinh city currently has a natural area of ​​67.5 km2, a population of 239,000 people (accounting for 7.7% of the population of Nghe An province and 2.2% of the population of the North Central region).
