Free heart surgery for people with revolutionary contributions

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2012), from July 1 to 31, Dong Do Heart Hospital under Dong Do Hospital Joint Stock Company will organize a free medical examination program to show gratitude to Vietnamese heroic mothers, war invalids and those who have contributed to the revolution at the hospital.

It is expected that the hospital will examine the heart, perform electrocardiograms and echocardiograms for about 500-1,000 people who have contributed to the revolution.

Currently, cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction and stroke, are the leading causes of death in the world. In Vietnam, research results in 8 provinces and cities show that the rate of people with cardiovascular diseases is increasing rapidly and tends to be younger. If in the 60s of the last century, the rate of this disease at the age of 25 was only 1.5%, in the 80s this rate was 11.5%, by 2010, this number had increased to 25.1%.

It is estimated that each year, about 16,000-20,000 children are born with congenital heart disease in the country. Without surgery, the children will have many serious complications, easily leading to death.

Statistics show that the mortality rate due to congenital heart disease is 5-10% of cases, with most cases dying within the first 2 years after birth./.
