Tired of waiting for candidates with third choice

(Baonghean) -There is about 1 week left until the final deadline for candidates to submit their 3rd choice to Universities and Colleges. In this final round, the door is open for most candidates who meet the minimum score…

Up to this point, only about 50% of universities in Nghe An province have recruited enough candidates. The rest are waiting for the number of candidates applying for their third choice, with the final application deadline being October 10. Although there is still more than a week left, many faculties at some schools are at risk of not being able to organize classes.

At Vinh Technical Pedagogical College, although the school organized the entrance exam at the same time as the university and college entrance exam, after two rounds of NV1 and NV2 admission, the school still could not recruit enough 1,380 students. Currently, the school still has 600 students for NV3 in both the University and College blocks. The University block alone has 450 students with many majors considered "hot" today such as Information Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Communications Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Automotive Engineering Technology. Although these are all majors with quite a lot of output, the school has only received about 100 applications. In general, it is very difficult to recruit enough students.

Petrochemical industry at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry - training facility in Nghe An is being chosen by many students.

In the 2011-2012 school year, the assembly-technical profession had nearly 5,000 targets to work in industrial parks.

Teacher Le The Vinh - Head of Training Department of Vinh University of Technical Education said. The most difficult thing at the school right now is the Technical Education major. Although this is the main major and students do not have to pay tuition, the school only receives about 10 applications for admission each year. Given this situation, it is very likely that the school will not open the Technical Education major this year.

A similar situation is also happening at the Biotechnology Department of Van Xuan University. According to the initial quota, this year the school's Biotechnology Department will open a class with 30 students. However, after 3 rounds of reviewing applications, the school has only received about 20 applications. In other economic majors such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, and Foreign Languages, although the number of applications is higher, the school is still not accepting enough students. At Nghe An Pedagogical College, this year the school only recruited about 60% of the quota.

Assessing this year's input, Mr. Nguyen Luu Thuy - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Vice Principal of Van Xuan University said: Due to the low quality of candidates taking the university entrance exam this year, it is very difficult for schools to recruit students, especially those that do not organize entrance exams... Some other schools such as the Pedagogical University are having difficulties because most candidates think that: The pedagogical industry now has a lot more "demand" than "supply" so they are afraid that they will not be able to find a job after graduation.

Difficulties in recruiting third-choice candidates at local universities and private universities have occurred in recent years and up to now, schools have not yet found a solution to overcome them. Faced with this reality, instead of trying to "save" NV3 candidates, many schools have switched to focusing on recruiting candidates in colleges, intermediate schools, and vocational training. For example, at Vinh University of Technical Education, every year, in addition to regular university and college training classes, the school continuously opens intermediate and vocational training classes. The good news is that in these classes, there are quite a lot of students applying to study and more than 90% of graduates are recruited by companies in other provinces. Choosing to study a trade instead of trying to squeeze into a "average" university is also a common trend of many young people today, but the most important thing is what to study and what to do after graduation is the right direction to choose a school and a career.
